
Inicialmente, o novo modelo foi oferecido ao mercado como Aero Boero 95/115 Standard e Aero Boero 95/115AG (para pulverizar lavouras). A produção desses modelos foi encerrada em 1973, quando o 12º e último exemplar, matriculado LV-JXR, saiu da linha de produção e foi modificado para dar origem ao AB-115BS, uma versão desenvolvida para o Ministério de Bem-estar Social de La Nación, da Argentina, que contava com espaço para receber uma maca. As novas asas tinham pontas côncavas e passaram a ser utilizadas nos novos modelos.

A Aero Boero apresentou os menores valores, e recebeu a homologação e certificação dos AB-115 e AB-180 pelo CTA (Centro Técnico Aeroespacial) no dia 26 de outubro de 1989, depois de uma equipe brasileira passar 12 dias na fábrica de Morteros, onde foi feita a inspeção das instalações seguindo as normas brasileiras. Primeiramente, foram encomendados apenas sete AB-180RVR e 20 AB-115 Trainer, mas, em seguida, ficou acertada a encomenda de um lote de 100 aeronaves em 1988 e, posteriormente, outros 350 foram encomendados no ano seguinte, incluindo os AB-180. Os primeiros exemplares chegaram ao Brasil em dezembro de 1990, e os últimos em janeiro de 1994, totalizando 366 entregas, sendo 306 AB 115 Trainer e 60 AB 180.
As dificuldades financeiras enfrentadas pela empresa na Argentina e os problemas com a economia brasileira fizeram a Aero Boero atrasar a entrega de aviões ao Brasil, pois a companhia não poderia cumprir as suas obrigações enquanto a viabilidade financeira do negócio foi se tornando cada vez mais marginal e, com isso, os outros 84 aviões encomendados não foram entregues porque o governo brasileiro não tinha dinheiro para comprá-los por estar passando por uma crise financeira desde 1993. Cada avião custou US$ 74 mil. Em comparação aos antigos J3 e Paulistinha, utilizados na instrução básica pela maioria dos aeroclubes brasileiros, o AB 115 tinha como grandes novidades a partida elétrica, rádio intercomunicador e VHF, e luzes de navegação.

Foram fabricados 420 Aero Boero 115, um recorde histórico para a indústria aeronáutica argentina até hoje, que aguarda pela reativação da linha de fabricação do modelo para aumentar esse número.
